Editor-in-Chief

CEO's-in-training, this one is for you! As Lazy Faire's head honcho, the Editor-in-Chief has a vision of where they want to take our fast-growing magazine, and drives the team to work toward that vision. The EIC manages the executive team, and is involved with every portfolio, whether it be content or strategy.

 

As Editor in Chief, you must wear many-a-shoes. You will need to be a leader, a creative, a planner, a problem-solver, a motivator and so much more. The EiC will have to organize all the moving parts of the team to ensure quality issues are being produced every month, while maintaining social relations and taking care of all the logistics of being in charge of a club. With great power comes great responsibility. As Editor in Chief, you are accountable to your team and to all the business students. It is your role as the visionary to bring the goal of “For and By Business Students” to life every month.

VP Editorial

Are you a grammar Nazi? Champion of the Oxford comma? Lover of the em dash and semicolon? Then this is the position for you! Responsible for deciding on the content that goes into each issue of the magazine, and editing the articles before they go to print, the VP Editorials manage our team of writers and are chiefly responsible for all-things content in the magazine.

Lazy Faire VP Editorials are responsible for:

  • Content editing: Lead monthly brainstorming meetings for all content contributors; collaborate with co-editor to synergize article ideas generated by contributors; allocate articles to writers, accounting for writer skill-levels and availability; edit finished articles for clarity, word count, grammar, and style; contribute 1-2 articles per month.

  • Mentorship: Guide content contributors, offer tailored advice, support, and technical assistance on a continuous basis, through online communication, informal meetings, and scheduled Editorial Portfolio meetings

  • Deadline adherence: Utilize multiple calendar-sharing applications to identify slack in production timelines; make monthly decisions to enforce or extend deadlines for individual contributors

Writers

 

The heart of our Lazy Faire team, writers make up the biggest position in Lazy Faire. Writers work under the VP Editorials, and are responsible for writing and producing the very content that goes in the magazine - whether that be helping with brainstorming for content ideas, doing research for articles, or interviewing the individuals we feature. Also expected to attend and contribute to monthly brainstorming meetings.

 

Lazy Faire Writers are responsible for:

  • Brainstorming. Attend and contribute to monthly brainstorming meetings.

  • Producing high-quality content as per content Editors’ allocations. Writing experience and technical skills are a must. Being a grammar nerd is an asset.

  • Deadline-oriented work. Deadlines are essential so each Lazy Faire issue can hit the stands on time, successful candidates must have excellent time management and prioritization skills.

  • Communication. Not only though your writing, but also with your team. Feedback is crucial to Lazy Faire’s growth as a student group and magazine, and writers should expect to receive feedback from numerous sources (i.e. Content Editors, other exec, students, and anyone else who might asks to be on the cover).

Photographers

 

Budding photographers, this is your chance to have your work published! Photographers are responsible for coordinating with our writers and taking high-quality photos of our interviewees for each issue of the magazine.

 

Photographers are primarily responsible for taking photos of Lazy Faire’s interviewees. Photographers will work closely with people concerned with their allocated article, such as the assigned Writer and subject, and ensure that photos are appropriate, edited, and ready in time to meet deadlines. In addition to interviewees, photographers may be asked to take photos for promotional purposes and general stock photos. Photographers are to attend monthly meetings and contribute to the brainstorming process for each issue. No experience is necessary, but familiarity with Photoshop and/or other photo editing software is an asset.

Anchor 3

VP Art & Design 

​

As VP Art & Design, you have creative license for the whole look of the magazine! From fonts, color themes and design format and overall aesthetic, you will be able to bring your vision for the magazine to life with the help of the designers. This is an incredible chance to build up your design portfolio, work with a team of other talented designers, and actually see your hard work come to fruition every month! Also expected to attend and contribute to monthly brainstorming meetings.

 

*Preference may be given to individuals with prior experience with InDesign and/or Photoshop.

​

Design allocations: Create monthly colour palette templates for all designers to follow; allocate articles to designers, accounting for designers skill-levels and availability; ensure all designs are consistent with each month's template and that all respective contributors are properly credited on each page; contribute 1-2 designs per month.

 

Promotional material: Work closely with the VP Marketing and your designers to generate promotional material for events (Power, Point, and Shoot, and the InDesign Workshop), recruitment posters, Facebook, and Instagram graphics (Fall and Winter Clubs Fair), and sponsorship materials

 

Mentorship: Guide designers, offer tailored advice, support, and technical assistance on a continuous basis, through online communication, informal meetings, and scheduled Designer Portfolio meetings

 

Deadline adherence: Utilize multiple calendar-sharing applications to identify slack in production timelines; make monthly decisions to enforce or extend deadlines for individual designers

Designers

 

No matter how good our content is, what keeps the issues flying off the shelves is the ‘packaging’ of the magazine - so whether you're a designer fanatic or a closet graphic designer, this is the position for you! Designers take the written content and create a slick, appealing and easy-to-read design for each article. Also expected to attend and contribute to monthly brainstorming meetings.

 

Designers are responsible for:

- Designing! You will work under the direction of the VP Art & Design with Adobe InDesign to ensure designs are consistent with the whole magazine.

- Attending and contributing to monthly brainstorming meetings

- Deadline-oriented work. Deadlines are essential so each Lazy Faire issue can hit the stands on time, successful candidates must have excellent time management and prioritization skills

- Misc: You may also be asked to create promotional materials for Lazy Faire’s various initiatives on an ad hoc basis.

*Preference may be given to Designers with some prior experience with InDesign and/or Photoshop, but no previous experience is required.

Social Media & Website Director

​

Curator of the perfect Instagram feed and master of the witty and tastefully humorous Twitter posts, the Social Media and Website Director is in charge of Lazy Faire's social media presence. From promoting the magazine and our events, to designing and maintaining a slick online platform, your skills are crucial to take the Lazy Faire name to the next level. As the Social Media Director, you will work closely with the VP Marketing and Events Director to raise Lazy Faire awareness and promote interest for monthly issues and club events! Also expected to attend and contribute to monthly brainstorming meetings.

​

If you’ve heard of #SuitsLF, that’s one of the main projects that the Social Media Director is responsible for. You will have the opportunity to reach out to and interview ASoB students for a feature on the Lazy Faire Instagram and Facebook.

*Familiarity with social media platforms (such as Facebook and Instagram) and website management (Wix) are assets.

SuitsLF Director

​

If you’ve ever read Humans of New York (please, who doesn’t?) and you’d like to try your hand being the School of Business’ very own Brandon (the reporter behind HONY), the Suits LF director is the perfect position to hone your interview skills and meet awesome people! The Suits LF director is responsible for finding ASoB students to take photographs of, and talk to them to unearth their incredible stories. Also expected to attend and contribute to monthly brainstorming meetings.

 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Identify and reach out to suitable potential interviewees for the Suits LF feature, based on a thorough understand of the goal of Suits LF to share the ‘unheard’ stories in the School of Business.

  • Coordinate with the individuals to be featured to perform the actual interview, and take their photograph.

  • Ask appropriate questions in order to draw out meaningful and/or interesting responses from the interviewee.

  • Regularly submit quotes and corresponding photographs to the VP Marketing and Social Media and Wesbite Director for editing and to maintain a consistent posting schedule (around twice a month).

  • Bring your own creativity and fresh perspective to this position, and discuss with the Marketing Portfolio regarding any new ideas you wish to implement, or direction you wish to take Suits LF in the future.

VP Events

​

Just like every squad has its resident party planner, Lazy Faire has VP Events. This position is exactly what it sounds like - the VP Events is responsible for planning internal events for the group, as well as working with the VP Marketing on internal and external events that Lazy Faire puts on during the year. You will be in charge of both the planning and logistical aspects of all of Lazy Faire's events. From planning team bonding events with the VP Operations and Finance, to our annual Power, Point & Shoot and InDesign Workshop, and even brand new unique events, there's definitely no shortage of chances to show your stuff! Also expected to attend and contribute to monthly brainstorming meetings.
